I don’t have many new years resolutions (a post on them will be up soon) but one of them sounds simple, but can be surprisingly difficult.
I’m going to write more consistently.
Sounds easy enough, right?
But most writers struggle with consistency from time to time. I’ve found writing exercises to be very helpful when in need of a little boost. So this year I’ve committed to doing one writing exercise every day.
To help me with that I’m using “The Writebrain Workbook” by Bonnie Neubauer. I’ve actually had this book for way too long without committing to it. It’s a little embarrassing, but hey, new year, new start!
The good thing about this book is that it focuses on getting the creativity flowing. To start writing and just write. In some of the exercises you are given the first sentence, others give you some words to work around or just a picture.
I’ve loved working with this workbook so far. Not all of them are going to be pieces that I want to share but that is not the point either. The point is to write and that is what I’m doing. Whenever I’m happy about a piece I will share them with you guys. Today was one of those days. My next post will be that exercise.
I’m loving this so far and I definitely recommend this to any write brain in need of some writing exercises to get going!
